<\/a>\n“Going to Somewhere” was originally written\/recorded on keyboard (or computer synth).\u00a0 I remember doing this at my sister’s house in Pismo Beach while I was house sitting.\u00a0 It was maybe 2002.\u00a0 This was my first “real” song I felt I wrote.\u00a0 I was longing for travel. \u00a0 Sister and her husband were in Bolivia and I had just done some low-budget backpacking trips to England and Japan.\u00a0 The song was really literal but also felt more significant to me.\u00a0 I’ve recorded probably hundreds of versions of that song and finally needed to put it to bed and get it out there.\u00a0 So here it is.<\/p>\n
The second track, “What Is Up?,” was the first song I ever wrote\/recorded with a properly tuned guitar.\u00a0 I had done some stuff with incorrectly tuned guitar (not on purpose) but this was the first song with real, legit chords–D major and G major.\u00a0 Just two chords, vamping back and forth.\u00a0 The vocals were improvised, recorded on top of the guitar.\u00a0 The version here is new.\u00a0 I think I knocked it out in a weekend.\u00a0 I since added a third chord (C major) and changed the guitar rhythm, but I think it keeps the feel of the original.<\/p>\n
At some point, I’ll post those early demos.<\/p>\n
